IVF / ICSI Treatment
IVF and ICSI are assisted reproductive technologies where eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory, and the resulting embryo is cultured before being transferred into the uterus.
With IVF, sperm are left to fertilize the egg naturally in a culture dish. With ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into the egg using a fine needle under a microscope.
Main steps
- Assessment and individualized protocol planning
- Ovarian stimulation monitored by ultrasound
- Egg retrieval, sperm preparation, and fertilization via IVF or ICSI
- Embryo culture with planning for fresh transfer, freezing, or genetic testing
- Embryo transfer followed by a pregnancy test about 10–14 days later
Risks to be aware of
- Temporary bloating, cramping, or discomfort
- Ovarian hyperstimulation, bleeding, or infection from egg retrieval
- Ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, or multiple pregnancy
