IVF in Bangkok vs Australia (2026): Costs in AUD, Success Rates & Travel

For Australians comparing IVF at home with treatment in Bangkok, the real decision is not which clinic advertises the lowest price. It is which clinically appropriate treatment plan gives you the clearest total cost, the right care and a realistic travel schedule.

Bangkok has private-pay IVF and ICSI packages; eligible treatment in Australia can be partly rebated through Medicare and some state programmes. Those differences can substantially change the amount a patient pays.

A THB 150,000 Bangkok package may look compelling when converted into Australian dollars, but eligibility conditions, additional treatment, medication beyond package limits, flights and repeat visits can change the final bill.

This comparison uses Genesis Fertility Center’s published 2026 ICSI packages and IVFAustralia’s published NSW fees as transparent examples—not national averages. It also explains lower-cost Australian alternatives, how to read success rates and what to confirm before travelling.

Key Figures at a Glance (AUD)

  • Bangkok: Genesis Fertility Center publishes ICSI packages from THB 150,000 to THB 350,000 (about A$6,410–A$14,957). The lowest price is conditional on clinical eligibility and may not be available to everyone.
  • Australian private-clinic example, with Medicare: IVFAustralia’s NSW ICSI cycle is shown as A$7,931 out of pocket; published day hospital and anaesthetist fees bring the selected items to A$10,928–A$11,078, before medication or consultations and subject to individual rebates and insurance.
  • Same Australian private-clinic example, without Medicare: the selected published charges total A$17,330–A$17,480 before medication and consultations.
  • Medicare: does not cover treatment in Thailand, so treatment in Bangkok is self-funded.
  • First step: Ask each clinic for an itemised, clinically comparable quote. Genesis Fertility Center states its first consultation is free and non-binding, with online consultations available.

AUD conversions use the Reserve Bank of Australia rate of 23.40 baht per A$1 for 13 October 2026. The full workings are in the cost comparison below.

Quick answer: On the selected published price components, Genesis Fertility Center’s LiTE (A$6,410), Gold (A$7,265) and Platinum (A$9,829) packages are below IVFAustralia NSW’s estimated A$10,928–A$11,078 Medicare-eligible private ICSI total before medications. These are not like-for-like final quotes: GFC package eligibility, inclusions, Australian rebates, insurance and the full cost of overseas care can reverse the result. Australia also has lower-cost pathways that are not represented by the IVFAustralia benchmark.

Compare treatment protocols first, then complete written costs and the likely number of trips. A lower package fee is not evidence of better clinical outcomes or lower overall expenditure.

The essential caveat: A$6,410 is not an unconditional IVF price

GFC’s LiTE and Gold rates carry age, AMH and six-egg conditions. Its separate LiTE promotion describes the six-egg condition differently and also lists semen-related requirements. Confirm in writing how eligibility is decided, what happens when fewer than six eggs are collected and whether an upgrade or extra fee would apply. [1, 17]

How Much Does IVF Cost in Bangkok in 2026?

IVF prices in Bangkok vary according to the clinic, ovarian stimulation protocol, laboratory procedures and any additional treatments required.

At Genesis Fertility Center, published pricing is primarily structured around intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) packages.

ICSI is a fertilisation technique used during IVF in which an embryologist injects one sperm directly into a mature egg. It may be recommended for certain male-factor fertility problems or previous fertilisation difficulties, although it is not necessary for every patient.

Source: Genesis Fertility Center ICSI Packages and Pricing 2026. Prices are published in Thai baht and may change. Package eligibility and inclusions must be confirmed before treatment. AUD figures are converted at the Reserve Bank of Australia rate of 23.40 baht per A$1 (13 October 2026); the amount charged will depend on the exchange rate when you pay.

Important: The main 2026 package guide describes a requirement for at least six eggs retrieved for LiTE and Gold. A separate LiTE promotional page says “starting egg count of 6 or more” and also lists semen and medication-type conditions. Those are not necessarily equivalent. GFC must confirm the operative terms for your treatment and what happens if eligibility changes after egg retrieval. [1, 17]

Other costs can include tests, medications beyond package limits, embryo freezing and storage, frozen embryo transfer, optional procedures and repeat cycles. Confirm whether monitoring, sedation and a fresh transfer are included in your specific quotation.

GFC states that its package price is designed to cover the core ICSI pathway, including stimulation, retrieval, fertilisation, culture and transfer, with stimulation drugs included only up to the package allowance. Ask which of these steps are included in the final written quote and how extras are authorised. [1]

Request a dated, itemised quote in THB covering all included services, thresholds and likely exclusions. Convert it to AUD using your anticipated payment rate and allow for card and currency-conversion fees.

What Can Increase IVF Costs in Bangkok?

Depending on your treatment plan, costs outside the headline package may include:

  • Subsequent consultations, fertility testing and blood investigations.
  • Ovarian stimulation medication beyond package allowances.
  • Embryo freezing and subsequent storage.
  • Frozen embryo transfer (FET).
  • Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A), if clinically appropriate.
  • Additional sperm preparation or retrieval procedures.
  • Treatment changes or further cycles if the first attempt does not lead to a live birth.

These services are not required for every patient.

Genesis Fertility Center publishes prices for several of these optional services:

How Much Does IVF Cost in Australia in 2026?

Australian IVF treatment costs differ between providers, states, treatment types and patient circumstances.

Eligible fertility services undertaken in Australia may attract Medicare benefits and relevant state support. No Medicare benefit is available for IVF undertaken in Thailand.

To make the calculation reproducible, this article uses the published NSW price schedule of one Australian private provider, IVFAustralia. It is not an estimate of the cheapest, typical or average IVF cost across Australia.

Published Australian IVF and ICSI Costs

TreatmentCycle fee (AUD)Estimated out-of-pocket fee (AUD)
Standard IVF$13,206$7,370
IVF with ICSI$14,333$7,931
Frozen embryo transfer$4,738$2,904–$3,807

Source: IVFAustralia NSW Treatment Costs, fees stated as current on 28 September 2026.

These estimates reflect IVFAustralia NSW’s stated rebate assumptions, including the Extended Medicare Safety Net for IVF/ICSI. The amount a particular patient pays can differ; they do not represent national averages.

IVFAustralia’s estimated out-of-pocket figures do not include fertility specialist consultations, day hospital or procedure-centre fees, anaesthetist fees, medication or storage. It publishes the following fees for those items in NSW:

Additional itemPublished fee (AUD)Notes
Day hospital or procedure centre, egg collectionA$1,593May be partly or fully covered by private health insurance
Day hospital or procedure centre, embryo transferA$754May be partly or fully covered by private health insurance
AnaesthetistA$650–A$800May be partly covered by Medicare and private health insurance
Embryo freezing (includes first 6 months’ storage)Confirm latest feeAdditional to cycle fee; check freezing and storage charges on the dated quote
PGT-AA$670 biopsy fee per cycleTesting fees are paid separately to Virtus Diagnostics
MedicationNot publishedPaid to the pharmacy; depends on the treatment and Medicare eligibility

Source: IVFAustralia NSW Treatment Costs, cycle costs correct as of 28 September 2026. IVFAustralia states that the Medicare rebate shown for IVF and ICSI cycles includes the Extended Medicare Safety Net, because patients reach that threshold within the cycle. Fee schedules can change; recheck the clinic’s live quotation before publication or payment.

Some hospital and anaesthetic charges may be reduced by private insurance or eligible Medicare rebates, and medication and consultations remain additional. Confirm each charge and rebate with the provider before treating the sum as a budget.

Lower-cost Australian options you should also compare

The IVFAustralia NSW example above is a private-clinic benchmark, not the cheapest Australian route. NSW Health funds three publicly supported lower-cost IVF services for eligible patients: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Westmead Fertility Centre and the Royal Hospital for Women. Availability, eligibility, treatment plan and appointment timing need to be checked directly. [4]

A separate private example is Hunter IVF’s “Hunter Lite” ICSI pathway in Newcastle. Its published 1 July 2026 schedule lists a A$4,175.40 cycle payment and an estimated A$2,908.32 out-of-pocket fee for an initial ICSI cycle, subject to eligibility and the site’s rebate assumptions. This is a cycle estimate, not an all-in quote; hospital, anaesthesia, medications and other charges need separate verification. Do not compare it with the full Bangkok package price without confirming inclusions. [16]

A cheaper Australian pathway may beat an overseas option once all charges are included. Comparing only with one higher-priced private clinic would overstate the financial advantage of travelling.

Does Medicare Cover IVF in Australia?

Yes. Medicare may contribute towards eligible IVF and assisted reproductive treatment services performed in Australia.

According to Services Australia, patients referred for fertility treatment may be able to claim benefits for eligible services. The Medicare Safety Net can also reduce certain out-of-hospital costs after applicable thresholds are reached.

The actual rebate depends on the services provided, eligibility, the provider’s fees and the patient’s circumstances.

Australian states may also provide support. For example, NSW’s one-off A$2,000 Fertility Treatment Rebate-2 applies to eligible ART expenses for qualifying NSW residents, subject to income and provider requirements and a 90-day claim window. It is not available for treatment under specified publicly supported lower-cost NSW programmes. A separate A$250 pre-IVF fertility-testing rebate has its own criteria. [4]

Do not deduct a state rebate until you have checked that both your treatment and provider qualify. Compare any relevant programme in your home state as well.

Can Australians Claim Medicare for IVF in Thailand?

No. Australian Medicare does not cover medical treatment performed overseas, including IVF at a fertility clinic in Thailand.

Services Australia states that Medicare won’t cover you if you need medical care in another country (Services Australia), and Smartraveller notes that there is no agreement between Australia and Thailand for free healthcare.

This is an important distinction when comparing treatment costs.

Australian patients should budget for Bangkok treatment as private-pay care rather than assuming their Australian Medicare entitlement will reduce the overseas clinic fee.

Is IVF in Bangkok Actually Cheaper After Travel?

It can be, but the answer depends on the treatment plan.

The most useful comparison is not the advertised IVF package price. It is the amount a patient expects to spend across the full treatment journey.

How Much of the Published Price Gap Survives Travel?

The differences below compare selected published costs only. They are not savings estimates. Treatment eligibility, additional medical costs, private health cover, state rebates, flights, accommodation, monitoring and another transfer can all change the result.

Genesis Fertility Center packagePrice (AUD)Difference vs IVFAustralia, with MedicareDifference vs IVFAustralia, without Medicare
LiTE (aged 35 or under, AMH 1.2 ng/mL or more)A$6,410A$4,518–A$4,668 lessA$10,920–A$11,070 less
Gold (aged 37 or under, AMH 1.2 ng/mL or more)A$7,265A$3,663–A$3,813 lessA$10,065–A$10,215 less
Platinum (no age limit)A$9,829A$1,099–A$1,249 lessA$7,501–A$7,651 less
Diamond (adds AI iDAScore, MACS and named-specialist care)A$14,957A$3,879–A$4,029 moreA$2,373–A$2,523 less

How to interpret the published differences:

  • The headline gap is largest for LiTE and Gold, but both have strict eligibility conditions. A Medicare-eligible patient qualifying for LiTE sees an illustrative A$4,518–A$4,668 difference before either side’s missing costs; it is not a guaranteed travel budget.
  • Platinum narrows the illustrative gap to A$1,099–A$1,249 with the cited Medicare estimate. Even one return flight or a longer stay may erase that gap.
  • State assistance can materially change the result. If an NSW patient qualifies for the A$2,000 private-treatment rebate, the Australian selected-cost figure could fall by that amount; confirm rebate eligibility and that it is not already included in any quote. Do not apply the same rebate to publicly funded lower-cost care.
  • Medication and clinical extras are not treated equally in these published prices. GFC includes stimulation drugs up to a limit; IVFAustralia lists medications separately. Request both written medicine estimates, plus any tests, transfer or hospital fees, to compare the same treatment pathway.
  • Diamond needs a matching quote. It includes extra laboratory technologies and named-specialist care, so compare it with an Australian quote that includes similar services.
  • Exchange rates affect the Bangkok AUD estimate: for example, THB 230,000 converts to about A$10,268 at 22.40 THB/AUD or A$9,426 at 24.40 THB/AUD, before any payment-provider margins.

If you need another transfer: Genesis Fertility Center lists frozen embryo transfer at THB 40,000 (about A$1,709) in its Platinum package information. IVFAustralia estimates A$2,904 to A$3,807 out of pocket for a frozen embryo transfer, plus a A$754 day hospital fee. A transfer in Bangkok means another trip, so add those travel costs before comparing.

The financially preferable plan is the clinically suitable option with the lower expected full cost—not the largest gap between published headline prices.

Example travel allowances: not a flight or medical quote

To see how quickly a price gap can narrow, the figures below add hypothetical A$2,000 or A$4,000 travel-and-logistics allowances to GFC’s published package prices. These are arithmetic scenarios, not estimates of actual airfare, hotel prices or care requirements. They exclude additional GFC treatment charges, extra medication and future visits.

GFC packagePackage onlyWith +A$2,000 allowanceWith +A$4,000 allowance
LiTEA$6,410A$8,410A$10,410
GoldA$7,265A$9,265A$11,265
PlatinumA$9,829A$11,829A$13,829

Build your own comparison: Bangkok total = package + excluded medical charges + flights + accommodation + local transport + monitoring + contingencies + any repeat visit. Australian total = written cycle quote + hospital/anaesthesia + medicines + investigations + storage − confirmed Medicare/insurance/state benefits. Allow for a cancelled or freeze-all cycle in either plan.

Get Your Personalised AUD Estimate

GFC states that its first consultation is free, non-binding and available online. Use it to check legal and clinical eligibility before making a financial commitment. Ask for a complete, written THB estimate with inclusions, exclusions and a provisional schedule; the indicative AUD value can then be calculated at the exchange rate used for payment.

To get the most accurate estimate, have these ready:

  • Recent hormone results, including AMH
  • Ultrasound findings
  • Semen analysis
  • Summaries of any previous IVF or ICSI cycles, including medication doses and response
  • A marriage certificate and any translations/legalisation requested by the clinic; confirm exact documentation before sending sensitive records.

Before paying deposits or booking flights, request written confirmation of package eligibility, what happens if the cycle changes, expected visits, refund/cancellation terms and aftercare arrangements.

IVF Success Rates: Bangkok vs Australia

Success rates are among the most important considerations when choosing a fertility clinic. They are also among the easiest statistics to misunderstand.

There is no single IVF success rate that accurately represents every clinic in Bangkok or Australia.

Outcomes depend on patient age, fertility diagnosis, egg and sperm factors, embryo development, treatment type and other individual characteristics.

They also depend on what a clinic means by success.

Australia’s Published IVF Success Data

The Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) published headline outcomes from 2024 assisted reproductive technology data in August 2026: [5]

OutcomeReported result
Live birth rate per embryo transfer31.1%
Live birth rate per frozen embryo transfer33.3%
Proportion of transfers involving a single embryo95.4%
Multiple-birth rate following ART2.2%

Source: FSANZ, Latest Australian IVF Data, 10 August 2026. These statistics reflect reported Australia/New Zealand ART data and are not individual clinic predictions.

The national figures cover patients with different ages, diagnoses and treatment histories. An individual patient’s expected chance of live birth may be substantially different.

Australian patients can use YourIVFSuccess to research fertility outcomes and compare Australian clinics, while recognising that differences in patient populations can make direct comparisons misleading.

Genesis Fertility Center’s Reported ICSI Success Rates

Genesis Fertility Center’s own material reports a 60–65% clinical pregnancy rate per embryo transfer and 70–75% among selected patients undergoing PGT-A. These are clinic-published figures, not independently verified live-birth rates. [8]

The cited clinic pages do not provide enough cohort detail for a risk-adjusted comparison with the FSANZ figures in this article. Before publishing a claim of superior outcomes, obtain the treatment dates, cohort sizes, age bands, embryo type, pregnancy definition and live-birth denominator.

For context, see GFC’s explanation of its reported ICSI pregnancy figures. [8]

Its separate guide also discusses why published Thai clinic figures are not uniform measures of live birth. [15]

Do not put these figures side-by-side as a “Bangkok versus Australia success rate”.

Clinical pregnancy per transfer does not measure live birth per started cycle. Patient selection, embryo testing, age, treatment stage and reporting period may also differ. Neither country can be judged superior from these two datasets.

Pregnancy Rate vs Live Birth Rate: What’s the Difference?

MetricWhat it measures
Clinical pregnancy rateOnly if the full written Bangkok estimate, including travel and extras, is below an eligible Australian alternative; compare lower-cost local programmes as well
Live birth ratePrice Medicare-eligible care, state assistance and publicly supported lower-cost options before deciding whether to travel
Success per embryo transferAsk GFC to confirm all LiTE/Gold eligibility criteria and the consequences of collecting fewer than six eggs
Success per started cycleOutcomes measured from treatment initiation, including cycles that do not reach transfer
Cumulative live birth rateThe chance of achieving a live birth across a defined set of transfers or treatment cycles

For example, an embryo transfer that results in a clinical pregnancy does not always result in a live birth. Outcomes reported only for completed transfers also omit cycles with no embryo available to transfer.

Similarly, outcomes calculated only among patients who reach embryo transfer do not include patients whose cycles produce no suitable embryo.

Ask every clinic for current age-specific live births per started cycle and per transfer, with patient numbers, fresh/frozen breakdown, time period and whether donor eggs were included.

What Influences IVF Success More Than Location?

The country where IVF is performed is only one part of the decision.

Important clinical factors include:

Age at egg retrieval: Egg age is associated with outcomes when using a patient’s own eggs; age-specific reporting matters more than headline clinic averages.

Ovarian reserve and stimulation response: AMH, ultrasound and previous response inform treatment planning, but AMH alone is not an independent prediction of live birth.

Sperm-related factors. Certain male-factor diagnoses may affect fertilisation strategy and whether ICSI is appropriate.

Embryo development. Not all retrieved eggs fertilise or develop into embryos suitable for transfer or freezing.

Underlying reproductive conditions. Endometriosis, uterine abnormalities and other diagnoses may influence clinical decisions.

Laboratory processes and specialist expertise. Embryology procedures, quality assurance and clinical experience are relevant when evaluating an individual provider.

A clinic should be able to explain how these factors influence the proposed treatment plan and its reported outcomes.

IVF Technologies Available in Bangkok and Australia

Leading specialist clinics in both countries offer assisted reproductive technologies such as conventional IVF, ICSI, embryo freezing, frozen embryo transfer and genetic testing.

Technology availability alone, however, does not establish that one clinic produces better live-birth outcomes.

ICSI: When Might It Be Recommended?

ICSI involves injecting a single sperm into a mature egg during the fertilisation process.

It may be appropriate for certain cases involving significant sperm-related fertility problems, prior fertilisation failure or particular laboratory circumstances.

Patients should ask why ICSI is recommended instead of conventional IVF for their individual case.

PGT-A: Does Genetic Screening Improve IVF Success?

PGT-A examines chromosome copy number in sampled cells from embryos. It may provide useful information for embryo-selection decisions in certain clinical circumstances.

However, a higher reported pregnancy rate among selected embryos transferred after PGT-A does not automatically establish a higher overall chance of having a baby from one egg retrieval.

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s 2024 committee opinion states that the value of routine PGT-A screening for all IVF patients has not been demonstrated.

Patients should discuss possible benefits, limitations, costs and the risk of obtaining no embryo suitable for transfer before deciding.

Reference: ASRM PGT-A Committee Opinion (2024).

What About AI Embryo Assessment?

Some fertility laboratories use artificial intelligence-assisted systems to help assess embryo development.

At Genesis Fertility Center, the Diamond package includes AI iDAScore embryo assessment and MACS sperm selection. Optional sperm-selection add-ons combine microfluidic sperm sorting (MSS), PICSI and, in the Sperm Premium option, MACS.

These technologies may support laboratory decision-making, but their availability does not by itself demonstrate a higher cumulative live-birth rate for every patient.

Ask what a specific technology is intended to achieve, whether it is clinically appropriate and whether it changes the total treatment cost.

Can Australian Patients Legally Have IVF in Thailand?

Australian patients can seek fertility consultations in Bangkok, but the treatment they can receive depends on Thai law, their circumstances and the clinic’s policies.

Thailand regulates assisted reproductive treatment, including the use of reproductive cells, embryos and certain third-party reproduction arrangements.

Genesis Fertility Center currently states that a marriage certificate is required for IVF/ICSI and IUI treatment at its clinics. It also states that egg freezing does not require a marriage certificate.

Legal rules and clinic policies may change. Obtain a written eligibility and documentation checklist from GFC before paying or travelling; consider independent legal advice for donor treatment or complex family circumstances.

Its guide for foreign patients notes that a marriage certificate may need to be translated and legalised through your home country’s foreign affairs department and the Thai embassy or consulate, so start this early if you plan to travel.

This is particularly important where treatment involves donor eggs, donor sperm, surrogacy, previous marriages or questions about recognition of marital status.

Same-sex couples should seek direct written confirmation of eligibility, acceptable marriage documentation and permitted treatment before booking. Recognition of a marriage does not, by itself, settle access to every assisted reproduction pathway.

For more information, review Genesis Fertility Center’s IVF in Thailand for Foreigners Guide.

How Long Do Australians Need to Stay in Bangkok for IVF?

The time required in Thailand depends on the clinical protocol and whether treatment involves a fresh or frozen embryo transfer.

A full IVF treatment pathway is not necessarily completed in one short trip.

A typical process involves several stages.

Genesis Fertility Center estimates that an ICSI cycle takes about two months from the start of ovarian stimulation to the pregnancy test. Egg retrieval takes 15 to 20 minutes under light sedation with same-day discharge, embryos are cultured for 3 to 5 days, and the pregnancy test is done 10 to 14 days after transfer.

Step 1: Initial Consultation and Fertility Assessment

Patients can ask whether their previous Australian fertility investigations are suitable for review before travelling.

Relevant medical records may include hormone results, AMH measurements, ultrasound findings, semen analysis and previous IVF treatment summaries.

The clinic can then explain which assessments need to be repeated.

Step 2: Ovarian Stimulation and Monitoring

Ovarian stimulation commonly involves approximately 8–12 days of medication, with monitoring through blood tests and ultrasound scans.

The exact duration and monitoring schedule vary.

If some monitoring is performed in Australia, both treating teams need a clear arrangement for sharing results, reviewing medication doses and deciding when the patient must travel.

Step 3: Egg Retrieval and Fertilisation

Egg collection is scheduled according to ovarian response and the specialist’s clinical assessment.

Retrieved eggs undergo fertilisation using the recommended method, followed by embryo culture.

Patients should ask how long they need to remain in Bangkok after retrieval, particularly if recovery or further review is necessary.

Step 4: Fresh Transfer or Embryo Freezing

A fresh embryo transfer may occur within the same treatment cycle when clinically appropriate.

Alternatively, embryos may be frozen for transfer in a later cycle.

A freeze-all approach may require a separate visit to Bangkok, increasing accommodation, flight and time-off-work expenses.

Step 5: Pregnancy Testing and Follow-Up

Pregnancy testing and subsequent medical care should be coordinated with a qualified healthcare professional.

Before returning to Australia, request a treatment summary and clarify which follow-up services can be arranged locally.

Avoid non-refundable travel bookings until the treating team confirms the likely in-person schedule. A two-month treatment timeline is not the same as a two-month mandatory stay in Bangkok.

Travel and Safety Considerations for Australian Patients

Travel for IVF involves more than organising accommodation close to the clinic.

Patients should consider treatment-related recovery, medication management, potential complications and access to follow-up care.

Smartraveller advises travellers to check whether insurance covers planned medical treatment, complications and medical evacuation. Standard travel insurance may exclude elective fertility treatment. Check current country advice shortly before departure. [10]

Treatment overseas also creates contingency costs if monitoring changes, retrieval is delayed, a freeze-all plan is adopted or extra medical care is required.

Patients should also discuss what happens if a cycle is delayed, cancelled or requires treatment beyond the original itinerary.

Before travelling, confirm who to contact outside normal clinic hours and where to seek urgent medical help if required.

Should You Choose IVF in Bangkok or Australia?

The strongest choice depends on the individual patient’s financial and clinical circumstances.

Patient situationOption worth considering
Paying privately with limited Australian financial assistanceBangkok packages cost about A$7,500 to A$11,070 less than IVFAustralia’s NSW fees without Medicare (LiTE to Platinum), before travel
Eligible for significant Medicare benefits or state assistanceCompare the Australian net cost first: with Medicare, the published difference is about A$1,100 to A$4,670 before travel, and a state rebate can close it
Aged 37 or under with AMH of 1.2 ng/mL or moreCheck eligibility for the LiTE or Gold package, where the price difference is largest
Wants treatment close to homeAustralia generally offers more convenient ongoing care
Comfortable travelling and coordinating treatment internationallyBangkok may be practical if the medical plan and costs are suitable
Requires repeated transfers or complex monitoringCompare the additional cost and inconvenience of multiple trips
Requires donor treatment or has particular legal eligibility concernsConfirm service availability and legal suitability in both destinations before deciding
Prioritises laboratory expertise and specialist experienceEvaluate individual clinics rather than selecting a country based on reputation alone

Request at least two written and medically comparable quotes: one from the Bangkok clinic and one from an eligible Australian provider, preferably including a lower-cost local pathway.

Compare the realistic full price, likely number of transfers and visits, complication arrangements and the implications of treatment being cancelled or changed.

What Genesis Fertility Center Offers Australian Patients

Genesis Fertility Center provides fertility assessment and treatment services in Thailand, including IVF, ICSI, embryo freezing, frozen embryo transfer and PGT-A.

Founded in December 2016 and listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, it operates two Bangkok clinics (Rama 9 International and Rama 3) and one in Ubon Ratchathani. Its published credentials include:

  • Regulatory accreditation: accredited for assisted reproductive technology services by the Thai regulator, certified in 2017.
  • Certified embryologists: six embryologists individually certified as Clinical Embryologists by the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) in 2023 and 2024.
  • External quality checks: its PGT-A laboratory, Genosomics, achieved Satisfactory performance in the GenQA external quality assessment for aneuploidies in the 2022 and 2023 programmes.
  • Industry recognition: Fertility Centre of the Year in Asia-Pacific at the GlobalHealth Asia-Pacific Awards in 2023 and 2024, and Embryo Laboratory Analyst of the Year in Asia-Pacific in 2024.
  • Specialist leadership: the medical team is led by founder Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pitak Laokirkkiat, a reproductive medicine specialist.

Published package tiers give patients a starting point, but price does not replace a personalised treatment plan. Ask for details of staff qualifications, current regulatory authorisation, laboratory performance reporting and complication pathways.

For international patients, the clinic lists support including consultations before treatment, personalised treatment planning, ongoing communication with the nursing team, emergency support throughout treatment and medication reminders. Its Rama 9 International clinic is about 20 minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport and is open daily from 08:00 to 20:00.

For Australians weighing overseas treatment, the test is whether GFC can provide a medically appropriate, eligible and financially transparent plan with coordinated follow-up.

GFC states that it provides a free, non-binding initial consultation, including online appointments. Use the discussion to establish eligibility, documented costs and a practical plan for follow-up in Australia.

Questions to Ask Genesis Fertility Center Before Booking

1. Do current Thai law and GFC policies permit my proposed treatment, and which documents are required?

2. Which package would apply to my individual results, and what happens if fewer than six eggs are retrieved?

3. Can you provide a dated THB quote listing drugs, monitoring, sedation, embryo freezing, FET, testing and possible extra charges?

4. What are your age-specific live-birth outcomes per started cycle and per transfer, and what period and denominator do they use?

5. How many Bangkok visits are expected for fresh transfer versus freeze-all, and what could alter the timeline?

6. Which tests and monitoring can my Australian clinician perform, and how will the two teams coordinate?

7. Who provides emergency help and post-treatment care if complications occur after I return to Australia?

8. What are the cancellation, refund, embryo storage, payment and currency-conversion terms?

Bring the same questions to your Australian clinic so you can compare equivalent treatment plans rather than competing headline figures.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does IVF in Bangkok cost in Australian dollars?

GFC advertises 2026 ICSI packages of THB 150,000–350,000 (about A$6,410–A$14,957 at 23.40 THB/AUD on 13 October 2026). The A$6,410 LiTE figure has age, AMH and egg-related criteria and is not a universal price. Extras, travel and currency fees are separate.

Is IVF cheaper in Bangkok than Australia?

Against the selected IVFAustralia NSW private-clinic fees, some GFC packages have a lower published starting amount. That does not establish a lower final cost after exclusions, rebates and overseas travel. NSW also has lower-cost IVF pathways, so compare eligible local options before deciding.

Are IVF success rates higher in Bangkok or Australia?

There is no defensible country-level winner on the data presented here. GFC reports clinical pregnancy per transfer; FSANZ reports live births per transfer across a different population. Ask for clinically comparable age-specific live-birth measures.

Can Australians use Medicare for IVF in Thailand?

No. Medicare does not cover medical treatment performed in Thailand. Eligible fertility treatment carried out in Australia may attract Medicare benefits.

Is the first consultation free?

GFC says the first appointment is free and non-binding, including an online option. Confirm whether subsequent testing or specialist consultations attract fees.

Is IVF in Thailand safe?

Safety should be evaluated at the individual clinic level. Ask about specialist qualifications, regulatory authorisation, laboratory quality assurance, complication management and follow-up arrangements. Travelling overseas also introduces additional logistical and healthcare considerations.

How long should I stay in Bangkok for IVF?

The time physically required in Bangkok depends on monitoring, retrieval, transfer type and follow-up. Ask for a personalised schedule; embryo freezing may entail another visit. The total treatment process can take several weeks.

Can I freeze embryos in Bangkok and return to Australia?

Fertility clinics in Bangkok, including Genesis Fertility Center, provide embryo-freezing services. However, arrangements for storage, future transfers and any potential international movement of embryos must be confirmed with the relevant clinics and authorities. Cross-border transfer should not be assumed to be straightforward.

Is ICSI better than conventional IVF?

ICSI can be useful for certain fertility diagnoses, particularly some male-factor conditions. It is not automatically the best fertilisation method for every patient. The decision should follow medical assessment.

Is PGT-A necessary for every IVF patient?

No. PGT-A may be discussed in particular circumstances, but routine use for all patients has not been established as beneficial. A specialist should explain the evidence and implications for the individual treatment plan.

Can unmarried Australian patients undergo IVF in Thailand?

Genesis Fertility Center currently states that ICSI and IUI at its clinics require a marriage certificate under Thai law, and that the certificate may need to be translated and legalised for foreign patients. Confirm your eligibility and documentation requirements directly before travelling.

Is Bangkok or Australia better for my first IVF cycle?

An eligible Australian patient should compare Medicare and state assistance, including lower-cost local services, before travelling. Bangkok may be financially worthwhile for an eligible GFC package, but only after full quotes and clinical requirements have been compared.

Final Thoughts: IVF in Bangkok vs Australia

IVF treatment in Bangkok and Australia can both be worth considering, but choosing between them requires more than comparing a clinic’s advertised cost or headline success rate.

Before you decide, establish:

  • What treatment is medically appropriate?
  • What is the realistic total cost after rebates, additional fees and travel?
  • How does the clinic report pregnancy and live-birth outcomes?
  • What legal and documentation requirements apply?
  • How will monitoring, treatment and follow-up care be coordinated?

For patients exploring Bangkok, Genesis Fertility Center can provide information about available treatment packages and discuss an individual care plan.

If you are considering GFC, request written confirmation of package eligibility, total cost, exclusions and the likely number of Bangkok visits before booking travel.
