PGT-A Genetic Testing at Genesis Fertility Center

Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A) is an advanced genetic screening performed during IVF/ICSI to identify embryos with the correct number of chromosomes before embryo transfer.

At Genesis Fertility Center (GFC), we use Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) to help our fertility specialists select embryos with normal chromosomal results when clinically appropriate, supporting informed treatment decisions and improving the chance of a successful pregnancy. You can also explore our Patient Success Stories to learn about the experiences of individuals and couples who have undergone fertility treatment at GFC.

    Key Facts:

    • Screens embryos for chromosomal abnormalities before transfer
    • Performed as part of an IVF or ICSI treatment cycle
    • Uses advanced Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
    • Approximately 99% testing accuracy with results available within 24 hours at GFC
    • Helps fertility specialists choose the most suitable embryo for transfer when clinically indicated

Why Choose PGT-A at Genesis Fertility Clinic?

If you’re considering PGT-A, choosing a clinic with experienced fertility specialists and a modern embryology laboratory is just as important as the technology itself.

Genesis Fertility Center, also known as GFC is one of Thailand’s leading specialist fertility clinics and a SET-listed public company (Ticker: GFC). Our team of seven fertility specialists, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pitak Laokirkkiat (Medical License #18494), provides personalized fertility treatment based on each patient’s medical history and reproductive goals.

    • More than 2,000 patients receive fertility care at Genesis Fertility Center each year.
    • ICSI success rates of 60–65% per embryo transfer, increasing to 70–75% when PGT-A is used in appropriate cases.
    • Advanced on-site embryology laboratory featuring AI-assisted embryo assessment (iDAScore) and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS).
    • 24-hour PGT-A results help support timely treatment decisions without unnecessary delays.

Whether you’re receiving fertility treatment in Thailand or travelling from overseas, our English-speaking coordinators and experienced clinical team are here to support you throughout every stage of your journey.

    Who Should Consider PGT-A?

PGT-A may be recommended for patients with specific medical indications or fertility histories. During your consultation, our fertility specialists will assess whether genetic screening is appropriate for your individual treatment plan.

PGT-A may be suitable if you:

    • Are 35 years of age or older, when the risk of chromosomal abnormalities naturally increases.
    • Have experienced two or more miscarriages, particularly if a chromosomal abnormality is suspected.
    • Have had repeated unsuccessful IVF or ICSI cycles despite the transfer of good-quality embryos.
    • Have a previous pregnancy affected by a chromosomal condition.
    • Have a personal or family history suggesting an increased genetic risk.
    • Wish to improve embryo selection before Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET), when clinically appropriate.

    How PGT-A Works at GFC

PGT-A is performed as part of an IVF or ICSI treatment cycle. The procedure follows the same initial steps as standard fertility treatment, with an additional stage for embryo genetic testing before embryo transfer.

Step 1 – Ovarian Stimulation and Egg Retrieval

Your fertility specialist stimulates the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs. Once the eggs are ready, they are collected during a short egg retrieval procedure.

Step 2 – Fertilization and Embryo Development

The eggs are fertilized using IVF or ICSI and cultured in our embryology laboratory until they reach the blastocyst stage (Day 5 or Day 6).

At GFC, we generally perform embryo biopsy at the blastocyst stage because the embryo contains more cells, allowing genetic analysis while minimizing disruption to embryo development.

Step 3 – Embryo Biopsy and Genetic Testing

A small number of cells are carefully collected from the embryo and sent for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS).

Our embryologists then review the genetic results together with embryo development before your fertility specialist recommends the most suitable embryo for transfer.

Step 4 – Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)

Because genetic testing requires time for laboratory analysis, embryos are cryopreserved after biopsy. Once the results are available and your uterus is ready, a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) is scheduled.

Why we use Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) at GFC

At Genesis Fertility Center, we use Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) because it provides highly detailed chromosome screening and supports informed embryo selection.

Compared with older screening technologies, NGS offers several advantages:

    • Screens all 24 chromosomes
    • Approximately 99% testing accuracy
    • Results available within 24 hours
    • High-resolution chromosome analysis
    • Supports individualized embryo selection when clinically appropriate

Combined with our experienced embryology team and AI-assisted embryo assessment (iDAScore), NGS provides valuable information to help guide treatment decisions.

    Blastocyst Biopsy and Blastocentesis

Our embryologists use advanced laboratory techniques designed to minimize disruption to embryo development while obtaining the information needed for genetic analysis.

When clinically appropriate, embryo assessment may include:

    • Blastocyst biopsy, where a small number of cells are collected from the embryo for chromosome testing.
    • Blastocentesis, an advanced technique that analyzes fluid from the blastocyst. This approach may reduce manipulation of embryo cells while providing additional genetic information in selected cases.

Our fertility specialists will recommend the most appropriate laboratory approach based on your treatment plan and embryo development.

    Benefits of PGT-A

PGT-A provides additional genetic information before embryo transfer. Although it cannot guarantee pregnancy or replace clinical judgment, it may offer important benefits for suitable patients.

    Potential benefits include:

    • Improved embryo selection before transfer
    • Reduced risk of transferring embryos with chromosomal abnormalities
    • Lower chance of miscarriage caused by chromosomal abnormalities
    • Fewer unsuccessful embryo transfer attempts
    • Greater confidence when planning Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)

At GFC, PGT-A is always recommended based on individual medical indications rather than as a routine test for every patient.

    Understanding the Limitations of PGT-A

While PGT-A is one of the most advanced embryo screening technologies available, it is important to understand its limitations.

    PGT-A:

    • Does not improve embryo quality.
    • Does not guarantee pregnancy or a live birth.
    • Cannot detect every genetic condition.
    • May not identify certain rare or low-level genetic abnormalities.
    • Does not replace prenatal screening or diagnostic testing during pregnancy.

Our fertility specialists explain the benefits, limitations, and expected outcomes before treatment so that every patient can make an informed decision.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can PGT-A guarantee pregnancy?

No. PGT-A helps identify embryos with normal chromosomal results, but successful pregnancy also depends on factors such as maternal age, uterine health, embryo quality, and overall reproductive health.

Is PGT-A recommended for every IVF patient?

No. At GFC, PGT-A is recommended only when there is a medical indication or when it is expected to provide meaningful clinical benefit.

    Will PGT-A damage my embryo?

Embryo biopsy is performed by experienced embryologists using advanced laboratory techniques designed to minimize disruption to embryo development.

How long does it take to receive PGT-A results?

At Genesis Fertility Center, PGT-A results are typically available within 24 hours, allowing treatment planning to continue without unnecessary delays.

Is Frozen Embryo Transfer required after PGT-A?

Yes. Because embryos are frozen after biopsy while genetic testing is completed, embryo transfer is usually performed during a later Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) cycle.
